January 28, 2010 -- Through the crisis and chaos in Haiti comes life – three new lives.
World Emergency Relief’s Rescue Task Force team from San Diego continues to save lives in Haiti. Darryl Hall, team leader, and the RTF team were delivering newly arrived medicines and medical supplies to a small clinic when they discovered a mother desperately holding onto her new babies. Her babies – triplets only hours old -- were fighting for their lives.
These three lives became a priority to Hall and the team, who searched the city and were able to track down formula for these babies.
“No giving up!” Hall reported in an e-mail sent to RTF. We took time from another critical mission to hunt for the urgently needed formula. At each stop we were met with the same answer: 'No, all of our merchandise is under rubble'. Or, 'Our supplies are already gone'. Even with no after no, we kept searching, trying harder and harder. We were like hunters.”
After finally located formula, he recalled, “Our return was very emotional. Everyone understood what this formula represented. These tiny babies were quickly facing death, malnutrition and holding on for their precious lives. We had brought life…”
The RTF team is among several local rescue groups that went to Haiti to assist in relief efforts following the devastating earthquake.
RTF was founded in El Cajon, later merging with World Emergency Relief. The team in Haiti is now in touch daily with headquarters in Carlsbad, said executive officer Andrea Stone. “The whole team has been working through hot and rainy days, cold nights and miserable conditions. Each life they save brings a refill of energy and keeps them going.”
She thanked supporters for donations and prayers, adding, “They are working!”
